SMILE Day 3- Hearts knit together- The program

Monica put together a fun program honoring Jim and Claudia. Here it is!

Jim and Claudia 40th Anniversary

Brenda: We’d like begin our program by telling you a story.

Jamison during intro: Claudia Palmer was born on October 5th, 1944 in Cedar City, Utah to Irene Chamberlain and Edward Leo Palmer. Claudia was the baby in the family, the youngest of 6 children. James V Yardley was born 6 weeks premature on January 12, 1945. The oldest child of Alta Hatch and James F Yardley, and the first Hatch and Yardley Grandbaby! The babies were so perfect that it took the entire alphabet to describe them! (Sing song)

Brenda: Although they were both raised in Southern Utah, James, or Jimmy V, was raised a cowboy from Panguitch. His life was busy and fun helping to take care of the farm, herd cows on the ranch, playing basketball in school, studying, playing 3rd trombone in the school band, and of course riding his horse April! Song: Called the Wind Mariah (Jamison, Jess, Meg, Rach)

Justin: Claudia, on the other hand, was raised a “city girl” in a college town. Theater, drama, English, shoes from the best store in Salt Lake City, fantastic clothes and hair from her mom, and even those dreaded viola lessons were all a part of Claudia’s life. It seemed as though Jim and Claudia were “Worlds Apart”. How would they ever get together?

Jamison: Shortly after Jimmy returned home from a very successful and adventurous mission to Guatemala, he realized that something was missing from his life.

Brenda: In the meantime, Claudia was thankfully getting rid of a few of the “wrong” men. It was obvious to all that she needed to end all of those Engagements! Song: I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair (ALL adult Women!!! – you too Brenda!) -yes, even I sang! So no picture here.

Jamison: Finally they were both ready for each other, and an inspired blind date was arranged.

Song: Strangers in the Night -New words (All Adults) -(Opps! I missed this one!- Sorry!)

Jim and Claudia they were a couple

He took her on a date

It was delightful

Soon she boke her back

And it was love for sure!

Then she was a bride

Soon had a baby

He was really cute

So they had another

Then the 3rd one came

With two more soon to join

Jim and Claudia

Fourty years together

They are Jim and Claudia

Up to the moment when they said their first hello

Little did they know

What the years would bring to them

And how much joy that they would have

And ever since that day

There have been farewells

Missionaries gone

And college students

Will we ever have

Our house again alone

There have been wedding

Brenda came along

Soon Darrin followed

Justin finally joined

And we are thrilled with them

This song got some tears. Strangers in the Night is their song, but was even more tender when the words were customized to fit them.

Brenda: It is common knowledge at the Yardley Home that the Grandchildren are the best part of this story.

Songs: Grandpa, Grandma (grandchildren) Jacob fell off the piano bench during these songs and bit his tongue. Poor guy!

Jamison: And now we have just one thing left to say -
